The Future of L&D

Hey, I'm Matt Smith. I've been in this world of learning and development for a while now.

I've worked in internal L&D teams, as an external learning consultant embedded within businesses, ran a learning design agency, and currently work as a freelance independent L&D advisor.

So I've seen this field from a few different angles.

I write these essays because I think the field deserves more serious thinking about where it's heading. There's a lot of noise, hype, and very large amount of marketing nonsense that we have to wade through every day. My aim isn't to add to that noise. There is also some thoughtful commentary out there. I'd like to add to it with some reasonable and common sense takes.

What we do is important and it impacts a lot of people. I want to help make sure we're doing it as well as we can, and that means thinking seriously about where it's going.
